Pure Genius!

In an area of Chicago where old houses are being torned down and large luxury homes are replacing them, a graffiti artist has made a life sized Monopoly luxury tax square on the sidewalk. It’s placed right in front of a current residential construction. Needless to say this is AWESOME!

Barack Obama: Cultural Muse

I don’t think there as been a political figure in recent memory that has inspired more works of artistic expression than presumptive democratic nominee Barack Obama. It all started with this speech at the 2004 Democratic convention, where the country got its first introduction to the politician. But in the past 8 months, there has [...]

Takashi Murakami sculpture sells for 15 million

I have talked a little here and there recently about how the art market has exploded to unheard of heights. Well, add this to the list. Takashi Murakami’s “My Lonesome Cowboy” has sold in a Sotheby’s Auction for 15 million dollars. It was bought funny enough through a bid submitted by telephone. After all, what [...]

Robert Rauschenberg dies at 82

Robert Rauschenberg, an incredibly prolific fixture in 20th century art, died this past Monday, May 12, 2008 in Captiva Island, Florida. Following in the legacy of Duchamp, his work pioneered and helped blur the boundaries between disciplines and helped forge new territories in art making.  His work (along with that of his former lover Jasper [...]

Featured Artist: Dan Tague

When I first looked at Dan Tague’s other work, he seemed rather familiar to alot of art students I know. Somewhat all over the place and producing work that has (no offense) a very “undergrad aesthetic”. It is not to say that is work is bad, but for the most part it lacks the veneer [...]

Adventures in Advanced Painting: “…We are all Americans…”

Well, this has been an extremely full semester, so much so as to be a detriment to my painting time. There was a point where painting became a chore, not because of painting itself, but due to not having the time and the undivided attention to work freely on my painting.
“…We are all Americans…” was [...]

Piel.Skin: Perhaps the first digital architecture book.

This may very well be the first fully digital architecture book, and if its not, its the first I have ever seen! Piel.Skin is a multi-language book featuring projects from around the world that are rethinking the facade as architectural element. The book shows buildings that assess what a building’s surface is, what it needs [...]
